Workshop Overview
On 25 September 2024, AERISE hosted a hands-on HULA Drone Programming workshop for students and lecturers at Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP). The programme introduced drone coding, artificial intelligence, recognition software and swarming through practical exercises.
From Coding Fundamentals to AI
Participants began with Scratch programming fundamentals and learned how basic coding concepts could control HULA drones. They then explored AI-assisted navigation and obstacle avoidance through guided programming exercises.
Recognition and Autonomous Navigation
Using HULA recognition software, participants programmed their drones to navigate a custom course designed by AERISE. The activity connected classroom programming concepts with autonomous flight behaviour.
Swarming Applications
The final session introduced coordinated operations using two HULA drones, as well as collaboration between a HULA drone and an unmanned ground vehicle. The exercise demonstrated the basic principles behind multi-robot coordination.
